Hawaii Park Death Spotlights Risky Tourist Trespassing

A 33-year-old Hawaii resident dies after entering a closed area on the east side of Kīlauea caldera in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Park rangers respond to the incident on February 26, conducting overnight search-and-rescue in steep, hazardous terrain while the volcano remains quiet. Rescuers airlift the man on February 27 to Hilo Benioff Medical Center, where he is pronounced dead.
