EU Suspends Visa-Free Travel for Georgian Diplomats

The European Union suspends visa-free travel for holders of Georgian diplomatic and service passports, effective early March and lasting until March 6, 2027. EU member states vote in favor, with only Hungary and Slovakia opposing, under a new uniform mechanism approved in December 2025. This targets passport categories due to Georgia's democratic backsliding, repression of protesters and media, and election irregularities, but ordinary passports remain unaffected as officials hold both.
