Barcelona Doubles Tourist Tax to Combat Overtourism Crisis

Barcelona is implementing one of Europe's highest tourist taxes starting April 1, 2026, doubling accommodation fees to address the city's severe overtourism and housing affordability crisis. Hotel guests will now pay between 10 and 15 euros per night per person, up from 5 to 7.5 euros, while short-term rental rates jump to 12.5 euros from 6.25 euros.
